10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not exciting for most of us. But it needs to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of your home?
The exterior of your home could probably use some refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your home in Largo, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save a lot of money in years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the optimal time of year to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in the spring, making a mess in your gutters if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are searching for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not give you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows will be trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and it will require a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem silly since you’ll just be driving on it, but, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use in the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it in the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in bad shape the first time you walk onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more aggressive option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Largo. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you start to see streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then leave it be. This mixture will eliminate any organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your home is likely what most people see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will even motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
Clean your front porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and think about painting it a new color for a fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will probably be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is an excellent opportunity to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor work.
Yard tools and pool care equipment should all have an assigned area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your home so much more throughout the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the look of your home.
Eliminate weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You can probably complete all of these projects after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Largo Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
